Yesterday I was all alone for my Saturday morning run, both of my running buddies were unable to meet up. One was out of town and the other was getting ready to head out of town. I hemmed and hawed about getting my butt out there and finally won the battle around 8:30 a.m. I would soon regret leaving that late!
I had mapped a course for 5 miles, set my app, set my Garmin, set the 165 bpm music…and I was off. I could tell it was already pretty hot and I was so happy I had chosen a route with lots of shade – moving from shade to sun felt like moving in and out of the oven…ugh. The first two miles went pretty well, I was focusing on the beat of the music trying to keep my rhythm even with the tempo. After that I could tell I was starting to get overheated so I changed my intervals from 3:1 to 2:2. Halfway into mile 3 I changed again to running 1/10th mile and walking 1/10th. It was so frustrating and I was mentally kicking myself for not getting out earlier…grrrr!
By the time I was nearing the end of mile 4 I knew I had to stop, it was just getting too hot and there wasn’t as much shade. I kept on until I finished that last mile and then called it a day. I’ve learned this lesson before…but clearly not well enough I simply must get out earlier if I hope to put in the miles without overheating!
It wasn’t a total loss, I did shave 2 mins off my overall time from last weekend 😀 And as I’m writing this, I can tell that keeping up with the music yesterday called on my muscles a little more than usual – I see lots of stretching in my future 😉
The girls and I have signed up for our next run – it’s the American 4 miler – it’s a fun run on July 4th. We did it last year and decided we’d do it again; I just hope it’s not as hot as yesterday!
I’m headed to my sewing room today to work on the baby blanket…it’s time to applique the name on the front. This is the scary part for me cuz I’ve never done it before – egads! Guess I’ll be watching tons of YouTube ‘how to’ videos!
