The weather warmed up a bit more than expected today and it was LOVELY! When I went out for my run at lunch it was 61 degrees!!! Now that’s my idea of January weather 😉
I stepped back a week on the C25K program because I haven’t run in almost two weeks. I did Week 3 Day 1 today:
The rest of the week the temps should be in the 50s…more great running weather!
2018 hasn’t had the best start. Both me & DH got sick right after Christmas and we’ve carried it into the new year 😦 We both are finally starting to feel better but it’s been so bitter cold here in SC that we haven’t left the house! Ha, now I know what a hermit feels like The upside is I’ve been cooking more (nothing elaborate that’s for sure) and we’ve been supporting the local economy by ordering in 😉
Needless to say I haven’t been sewing or quilting much this past week but I did get a spurt of energy and started my Scrap Attack project for January. If you’d like more information about it, check out Sarah’s blog post. I searched Pinterest a few weeks ago and made a board of the scrappy projects that would fit my chosen precut size of 2.5×4.5. When I’m done with a project I take what’s left, cut it to this size and store it in a clear plastic box (sometimes I don’t cut it right away but I keep what can be cut to this size in that box as well; anything smaller goes in a large pillowcase to be donated to an animal shelter when it’s full).
I printed small versions of those Pinterest posts and put them in a tin, earlier this week I pulled a project for January – it’s “Mother’s Own” block. This is a free block pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop and it makes a 5.5″ block. I didn’t really think about the size until I started cutting – the pieces call for 1.5×2.5 and 1.5 square. I’d already made two blocks when it dawned on me that I could save myself some cutting if I up-sized the block to 10.5″; the pieces would then be 2.5×4.5 and 2.5 square – duh!!! No brainer!
After making the first up-sized block I noticed I could make a couple more smaller ones and when sewn into a 4-patch they’d be the same size…so…here’s my progress to date. Not sure if I’ll make more of the smaller size or not, I’ll figure that out as I go along.
An added bonus to sewing with my scraps is using up bobbin scraps from previous projects…Yay, 8 bobbins emptied without wasting the thread 😀
Oh wait, I did make a few blocks for another project. Carole of From My Carolina Home is making quilts for folks affected by the terrible fires in California and I made these blocks over the new year’s weekend…unfortunately I haven’t mailed them yet because I haven’t left the house (sorry Carole!!) They will definitely go out on Monday!
As for running…well, I’m sure you can guess – I haven’t left the house because of the cold so I sure as heck haven’t been running! I’m really kind of bummed because I was making really good progress running three times a week 😦 Oh well, the temps are supposed to be in the 50’s later this week so I’ll get my butt out there and get back on track. I haven’t run since Week 4, Day 2 so I’m planning to step back a week and pick back up at Week 3, Day 1.
Tennis is starting again with warm-up tournaments before the Australian Open later this month…squeeee, I do love to watch tennis! Roger Federer is still on fire and with both Andy & Novak continuing to nurse their injuries, he has another great shot at that trophy. It’s going to be fun to watch 🙂
Have a great day & week…ttfn!
A little late in posting…I plan to run Week 4 Day 2 later today…
I finished up the Trees quilt last week and posted it for sale on Facebook…so far no takers. No worries, I’ll hang on to it for a bit and if it doesn’t sell I’ll probably donate it. I’m not trying to create a business out of making quilts, I do it because I enjoy it…if I make a few bucks at it, well that’s just icing on the cake.
I was feeling the need for a quick finish so I pulled a charm pack I got in a Sew Sampler box and used the pattern provided to make this table runner. It’s not my aesthetic but I like how it turned out. Again, I put it up for sale on Facebook.
I had some half square triangle blocks left over so I’m making a coordinated hot pad to go with the table runner…still in process.
I also started another project with some Jolly Bar precuts from a Sew Sampler box…this time I used the Jolly Bar pattern book from a different box and I’m almost done putting this baby size top together
The weather here has been really mild and today will probably be the last day in the 50’s for the next 10 days so I’ll be getting out there the start week 4 of C25K. The running portions of the intervals will now start to increase…I’m excited to see how I’ll do!
And I decided to take the leap and sign up for another Half Marathon – the Myrtle Beach Mini. This is the same race I completed for my very first Half and my running buddies have a tradition of running it every year. I’ve skipped it for the last two years but figured since I’ll be living in MB I may as well sign up. The race is in October so I have PLENTY of time to train!
The rest of today will be spent watching football and later going to a few parties in the neighborhood.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and I hope all your dreams come true!! 😀
Whoop whoop! I made it through Week 3!!
