Visitors and misc

Not a lot of sewing going on around here. I finished the memory quilt two weeks ago and I thought I would jump right into finishing my Meadowland quilt or my Rainbow Postage Stamp quilt…but both are still sitting there untouched 😦 I did piece batting and the back for the Meadowland so I guess that’s progress, lol

We had friends from Maryland visit last week and it was exhausting!! I won’t go into all the gory details, suffice to say they argue constantly and we were very happy when it was time for them to leave. I don’t think we’ll be inviting them back – ever again! With all that angst we still captured a few good pictures

In other news, we’re redecorating DH’s bedroom (yes, we sleep in separate rooms). His bedding and curtains were an ugly dull brown and he (finally!) decided to lighten things up a bit. He saw this coverlet on Evine and asked me to order it – needless to say you could’ve knocked me over with a feather, but I got on the computer right away 🙂

Next, we ordered a navy blue bedskirt and navy blue blackout curtains from Amazon…the bedskirt is elastic and kind of wraps around the boxspring instead of having that gauzy material that goes under the whole mattress – wow, it was so easy to put on! We haven’t hung the curtains yet.

I have started a new quilting project, my husband’s cousin reached out to me a few months back to ask if I would make a quilt for her next grandchild due in October, I said Yes! I love making baby quilts!! 🙂 She had a specific color palette in mind and wanted something with elephants so I got on Pinterest and sent her a few examples of quilts I felt I could replicate or offered a pattern. She loved this one (and it was secretly my fav too!)

She wanted it to be all flannel so I gave her the fabric requirements and she went to her local Joann’s, bought what she liked and sent them to me (she lives in WV). I’ve had those fabrics for about a month and yesterday I started working on the project by cutting the 5″ squares, piecing together the template for the elephant, tracing it to Heat ‘n Bond and affixing it to the fabric. Next up is cutting it out and appliqueing it to the background.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I didn’t drop any weight this week…in fact I’m up .4 but I expected that with having company most of the week. We ate out a lot and I had a few more ‘adult beverages’ than usual.
My niece is coming for a visit next week and I’m so excited! She’s like a mini-me in many ways – appearance, personality, world view. We often joke she should be my kid!! (Ha, she’s not a kid anymore). She celebrated her 40th Bday earlier this year and I wasn’t able to go up to MD at that time so we’ll do something while she’s here to mark the occasion.
That’s all for now…enjoy the rest of your weekend!!
Smaller finishes
Since I finished three quilts in the last few weeks I decided I’d work on some smaller projects…and how cute are these Elephant Plushies (free pattern alert!) I had some fun fabric and extra polyfil laying in the corner so it all just happened!
I made the big blue one first and then made a baby…
Then I added another baby…img_20180714_143004.jpg
I’ve made two more big ones to send off to my sweet great niece – her room is decorated in pink & gray and I used some of these same fabrics to make a quilt for her crib last year.
Next up I’m going to make a golf seat cover for my friend in Myrtle Beach – we’ll be going down next weekend so I’d like to take it with us.
That’s about all for this week…Have a great rest of your weekend 🙂
Baby, Birthday & quilting
My niece sent me these pics last week showing little Campbell laying on the Elephant pillow I got for her…oh, my heart is just bursting at how sweet she looks!!!
I sure do miss my snuggle time with that little girl ❤
It was my birthday yesterday – we really don’t make a big deal about celebrating anymore – we just go out for a nice dinner. I picked a new restaurant for us called Firebirds in Charlotte’s South Park area. It was a nice place and the food was good, although DH has some issues with his prime rib. The manager made it right by giving him another steak of his choice…so all ended well. We snapped this picture on the way out…don’t I look stuffed!!
I pulled out an old ufo last week, basted it and started quilting. I really didn’t know how I wanted to quilt it so I just jumped in, echoing the trees and adding some swirls all around…you can see the quilting better on the back.
I’m halfway done and should finish it up today.
The new house in Myrtle Beach is still coming along but painfully slow – here are a few pictures our friends sent yesterday – the original date was Oct (!) At some point both me & DH are gonna blow our stack at this builder for how long this is taking…maybe after the holidays – UGH!
That’s about all for now…I’ve been doing some 2017 reflection and planning what I want to accomplish for 2018, for me that’s both painful & fun…LOL!
Sewing for Baby
I finished the baby quilt for my niece in plenty of time for my trip this coming weekend…Yay! The color in the pictures is not quite right…the fabrics are a little more saturated but this is the best I could get :-/
I also made another receiving blanket with the left over flannel
And the new momma asked if I could try to make a tagtoy they saw on Pinterest, my first attempt is a little wonky but unless I can make another in the next two days this one will have to do.
I’ve had my fill of pink fabric for now but I’m sure I’ll be using more as that little girl outgrows these!
I put the final seam in the Clemson tshirt quilt…I’m now waiting on the client to pick out backing fabric. I emailed her a few options but she didn’t love them so I asked her to go online and find something, let’s see how long this takes!
We made a little purchase this past week – we’ve had a Dodge Van for over 20 years and it served us well but it was time to let it go. We’re downsizing everything for our move to Myrtle Beach so I guess it made sense to downsize the vehicle too! We’ve been checking out KIA Soul’s for quite a while and finally pulled the trigger…I love it. It has quite a bit of passenger space and just enough room in the back to haul small stuff when the rear seats are folded down. We’ve nick-named it our “Rat Rod” after those cute commercials with the mice!!
That’s about it for now…what have you been up to this week?
Sammie surgery
My little mini-schnauzer girl had to have surgery last week. She’s 9 years old and never had her teeth cleaned, the vet said it was time. She also suggested that while she was under  we take off some of the larger skin tags that had cropped up over the last couple of years, a total of 6, so we did that too. Sammie came through with flying colors but this Momma was a nervous wreck! The vet called while Sammie was still under to say that two of her lower front teeth were loose and she recommended taking them out, so I agreed.
I picked her up around 3pm, she was still a bit groggy and out of it but I got her home and made her something to eat and she gobbled it right up – that’s always a good sign! We got a prescription for pain meds and she only needed them for two days before she was back to her old self again…yay! Here’s a picture of two of the spots where skin tags were removed.
and here’s a closeup of her missing teeth…LOL
I took off Friday to take care of Sammie but she slept most of the day so I worked in my sewing room. I finished up the Pumpkin table runner and started on my next commission tshirt quilt (yep, the first girl finally brought her shirts over!!)
This is not the final layout for this project, I just wanted to get an idea of size. I have lots of tshirt pieces left over so I may do a border with those, not sure yet.
I also put together a baby quilt top for my niece. They picked out the pink & gray fabrics (they’re having a girl!!) and gave me a few Pinterest shots they liked, thankfully it was pretty easy! I want to use a gray chevron flannel for the backing but wouldn’t you know it, none of my local stores had it in stock … so off to Fabric.com I went. I know, I know, I shouldn’t buy online but when it’s not available local there’s really not much I can do. My niece also asked if I could make a few receiving blankets so I got a couple extra yards of flannel and minky for that too. I need to have all this finished by the time I go up to Md for the baby shower on Aug 27…no problem!
A little closer look at the fabrics.
And while they were on Pinterest they stumbled across this adorable Tag Toy and asked if I could make it…um, I guess I could try…Ha! this should be fun!
So that was my week. The house in Myrtle Beach is coming along and we’ll be going down for a visit next weekend so I’ll have more pictures for my next post – which will probably be late 😉
