Holiday and other stuff

We had a nice Thanksgiving holiday, we went to the same local restaurant as last year – Carolina Roadhouse here in Myrtle Beach. For $21.95 they serve a plated traditional Thanksgiving dinner (not a buffet) and just like last year it was awesome! However, as we were waiting to be served we decided we’d probably cook at home next year. We’ve eaten out a few years now and we kind of miss the whole cooking at home thing and all the leftovers that come with it!

No sewing going on here the past week, as you might imagine I’ve been in a bit of a funk with Sammie’s diagnosis and treatment plan. The chemo pills will be here Monday and I’m horribly apprehensive about giving them to her…I feel like I’ll be feeding her poison! Ugh!! but I know I’ve got to get over that, give the treatment a shot and hope her little body will be able to handle it.

I’ve got a commission t-shirt quilt waiting to be started and thankfully it’s for a friend who understands what’s going on right now so she’s not pressuring me. I’ve also got several tops waiting to be basted, quilted and bound…and each day I think about working on them but then I don’t 😦

I went to WW on Saturday and I’m down the same 1.8 I’ve been gaining & losing for about 3 months now…SMH! I switched to Green last weekend and I’m doing a pretty good job tracking everything so let’s hope this loss gives me some momentum to keep losing!

Last but not least, we officially closed on our Lake Wylie home this past Monday. I think I was holding my breath all day until they finally wired the money around 3:30pm. What a tremendous weight off my shoulders…I was so worried things were going to fall through at the last minute (we had that happen with our home in MD 14 years ago!) – but it’s all done now!!

That’s all for now…have a great rest of your weekend!

A new chapter begins…

Last week we found out our little baby girl, Sammie, has Lymphoma. I know, that’s an awful way to start the blog post but I figured I’d just get it over with. Sammie had her teeth cleaned at the end of August and a few weeks afterward I noticed two small bumps on her neck under her jaw. I kept an eye on them and a few days after she got groomed in October I noticed her ears were all crusty inside. I wasn’t sure if something happened at the groomers but I took her to the vet to find out what was going on.

They swabbed her ears and ran a culture, it came back as a yeast infection. They looked at the bumps on her neck and said her lymph nodes appeared to be swollen which could be a result of the ear infection. We got some drops and ear wash and ran that cycle for 10 days. When we went back for her follow up her ears were great, the infection was all cleared up but the bumps were still there so they took a sample…and the result is Lymphoma. They referred us to the nearest oncologist which is about 2 hours away in Charleston. We have an appt for a consultation this Thurs 11/21 – hopefully we caught it early and they can treat it.

Needless to say I’ve been an emotional wreck for the past week. The good news is Sammie doesn’t act any different. She still runs and plays & eats and sleeps like normal…but DH & I know and we’ve been giving her extra treats and laying lots of love on her. We need to be careful not to let her gain a bunch of weight because that’s not good for her either.

WW released their new myWW plans last week and I chose Purple. My eating has gotten way out of control especially with snacking at night. The Purple plan has the lowest number of daily points but has 300+ zero points foods so I’m hoping with the restriction of points I’ll start using the zero points foods for snacks. At my weigh in yesterday I was the same as when I weighed in two weeks ago…which is a pleasant surprise because like I said I had been snacking way too much!

I went to the grocery store and bought a few things from the zero point list like FF plain greek yogurt, SF/FF vanilla pudding mix, fruits & veggies. I’ve also been using the Connect feature on the app to search for recipes. Hopefully this change in the plan will be the kick-start (or kick in the butt) I need!!

The sale of our Lake Wylie house should be final next Monday 11/25…all inspections are done and the agreed upon repairs have been completed. The appraisal was done last Monday and we’ve not heard a word so my realtor says ‘no news is good news’ in that regard. It will be nice to have this chapter closed before starting a new one with Sammie’s treatment.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know I asked for good vibes for the sale of our house and now I’d like to ask for more good vibes & prayers for our Sammie girl. She’s 11 years old and I’m worried she may not handle the treatments very well – even though I have no idea what the treatments may be. I refuse to search the internet about this until we we meet with the oncologist.
That’s all for now…have a great rest of your weekend.
More progress
I made a little more progress on my scrappy improv rainbow project – I got the batting cut to size and I pieced the backing.
Here’s the back hanging on my design wall. I’ve had this bronze dot fabric for a while and up close it’s really pretty – but in pictures it reminds me of measles!! I didn’t have enough for the whole back so I added the other dot fabric.
I’m also participating in the #grannycabinsewalong and this week we needed to cut our fabric and make a test Block A. I’m so glad I made a test block because I don’t like how the print on my color 4 fabric looks once it’s cut and pieced into the block. I think it interferes with the design of the block so I’ll be finding another option.
I spent some time this last week decorating above my kitchen cabinets. I had been waiting for DH to install ply board so my decorations wouldn’t get lost below the molding and then a friend said “why don’t you just use foam blocks to sit the items on?” Well HELLO! Why didn’t I think of that – LOL!! I measured the space and went to the store to find the size I needed but none of my local stores had the right sizes or enough foam blocks so I went to Amazon and found exactly what I needed. A few days later I started working on it.
I purchased all the decor a few months ago and unfortunately I didn’t buy enough greenery 😦 and now the store doesn’t have it out because they’ve switched to the seasonal stuff – UGH!! Crap!! I guess I’ll just have to wait until after Christmas to buy more – FML!
I went to WW yesterday and as I suspected I went up a little bit, 1.2 to be exact. I splurged quite a bit this last week so I need to buckle down and get back on plan.
Update on the house in Lake Wylie: The buyer has officially backed out and we told him he will not be getting his deposit back. DH spent all last week up there and was able to clear out all the remaining ‘stuff’ that didn’t sell in the estate sale. He also got the yard back in shape so now it can be put on the market. He talked to a realtor that lives in that neighborhood and he thinks we may be able to clear more than we had agreed to with the other buyer – that sure would be nice!!
That’s all for now – have a great rest of your weekend!!
