More finishes

I continued doing something quilty everyday this past week…except for one day! I just ran out of steam Wed night and didn’t even go in my sewing room… and I’m ok with that!

Here’s what I got done last week: I quilted my Meadowland quilt. It took three evenings to get all the loopy swirls completed and on the fourth evening I got it trimmed and put on the binding.

My fur baby helped with this photo!!

I found the perfect fabric in my stash for binding, Purple mini bracelets for the win!

The color is more true in this close up. I now have three finished quilts with no home 😮 I’m going to put them up for sale and see what happens 🙂

Yesterday I finished this golf cart seat cover for a friend. I’ve made a few for her last year, she likes to give them as gifts to her golfing buddies. The golfer print is cotton and the light green is flannel. The last time I made one the elastic handles were too long so I shortened them up…hopefully not too short. I don’t have a pattern for this so I’m just winging it!

I skipped WW again yesterday. I think I’m going to switch my membership to Online only before next month’s billing. No sense paying for the whole package when I’m clearly not using it!

Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs on their SuperBowl win! It was a great game to watch and I suspected they would come back in the fourth quarter 😉

That’s all for now! Have a great rest of your weekend!!

Rinse & repeat

It seems January was on constant repeat, meaning I’m in the habit building stage so every day consists of many of the same things – walking, cleaning, quilting.

I’m happy to report 2 out of 3 went very well…the cleaning one, just eh! I’ve been walking every day – even when it’s been a bit chilly. There were several days last week in the low 40’s and yesterday was a gray, chilly, drizzly mess…but I walked 🙂 As for quilting, I’ve been doing something every day and in just one month I’ve pieced a new flimsy top (Plaidish) and completed two UFO’s that have been basted for more than month. As for cleaning, my plan is to spend just 15 mins a day/5 days a week cleaning a section of the house. It sounds super simple and it is, but most days end up putting it off 😦

This is my Granny Cabin quilt before washing. I quilted an all-over meander motif and used a grey print for binding. It finished 58″ square.

This is my Rainbow Improv quilt before washing. Since the fabrics and design are so dominant I wanted to down play the quilting with simple diagonal lines. I corralled all that color with a medium grey binding. This one also finished 58″ square.

Next up, I’ll be finishing my Meadowland quilt…here it is all ironed & ready for quilting. I searched Pinterest & IG for quilting ideas and I think I’m going to do all-over random swirls. That should play nicely with all the angles. This one will finish 48×64.

I have no specific plans for these three quilts…I’ll probably post them for sale on FB and if there are no buyers they’ll likely go to charity 🙂

I went to WW yesterday for my weigh in and I’m still .2lb away from a 10# loss…UGH!! I’ve been see-sawing back and forth with the same couple of pounds for months now. I haven’t been great at staying within my points so it’s no surprise…I’m just not sure how to get my head in the right place but I’m going to keep trying!

I finished watching the Australian Open this morning with the Men’s final match and yesterday was the Women’s final. If you don’t want to know who won…stop reading!!

In the Women’s final it was American Sofia Kenin vs Muguruza from Spain. Kenin dropped the first set and it looked iffy as she started the second but in the end she fought it out and won her first Grand Slam title! Congrats Sofia!! Today in the Men’s final it was Novak Djokovic vs Domonic Thiem. It was a tough 5 set match and momentum swung several times but in the end I guess experience won out…Djokovic broke Thiem early in the 5th and never looked back. Congrats Novak!

That’s all for now, enjoy the Superbowl later today! I’ll be cheering for the Chiefs but either way I’ll just be happy if it’s a good game 🙂

Visitors and misc

Not a lot of sewing going on around here. I finished the memory quilt two weeks ago and I thought I would jump right into finishing my Meadowland quilt or my Rainbow Postage Stamp quilt…but both are still sitting there untouched 😦 I did piece batting and the back for the Meadowland so I guess that’s progress, lol

We had friends from Maryland visit last week and it was exhausting!! I won’t go into all the gory details, suffice to say they argue constantly and we were very happy when it was time for them to leave. I don’t think we’ll be inviting them back – ever again! With all that angst we still captured a few good pictures

In other news, we’re redecorating DH’s bedroom (yes, we sleep in separate rooms). His bedding and curtains were an ugly dull brown and he (finally!) decided to lighten things up a bit. He saw this coverlet on Evine and asked me to order it – needless to say you could’ve knocked me over with a feather, but I got on the computer right away 🙂

Next, we ordered a navy blue bedskirt and navy blue blackout curtains from Amazon…the bedskirt is elastic and kind of wraps around the boxspring instead of having that gauzy material that goes under the whole mattress – wow, it was so easy to put on! We haven’t hung the curtains yet.

I have started a new quilting project, my husband’s cousin reached out to me a few months back to ask if I would make a quilt for her next grandchild due in October, I said Yes! I love making baby quilts!! 🙂 She had a specific color palette in mind and wanted something with elephants so I got on Pinterest and sent her a few examples of quilts I felt I could replicate or offered a pattern. She loved this one (and it was secretly my fav too!)

esm

She wanted it to be all flannel so I gave her the fabric requirements and she went to her local Joann’s, bought what she liked and sent them to me (she lives in WV). I’ve had those fabrics for about a month and yesterday I started working on the project by cutting the 5″ squares, piecing together the template for the elephant, tracing it to Heat ‘n Bond and affixing it to the fabric. Next up is cutting it out and appliqueing it to the background.

I didn’t drop any weight this week…in fact I’m up .4 but I expected that with having company most of the week. We ate out a lot and I had a few more ‘adult beverages’ than usual.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My niece is coming for a visit next week and I’m so excited! She’s like a mini-me in many ways – appearance, personality, world view. We often joke she should be my kid!! (Ha, she’s not a kid anymore). She celebrated her 40th Bday earlier this year and I wasn’t able to go up to MD at that time so we’ll do something while she’s here to mark the occasion.
That’s all for now…enjoy the rest of your weekend!!
Short & sweet
I’ll be keeping this brief today, we’re driving back to our other house later this morning to go through our stuff one last time before the estate sale. The sale was supposed to be this weekend coming but because we couldn’t get up there before now, it’s being put off until the following weekend so she can adequately advertise for it. I sure will be glad when all of this is behind us!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I finished my Meadowland quilt top yesterday and now, of course, I wish I had made the larger version 😦 I used a FQ bundle I had been hoarding and only had enough to make the 48×64 size. I could’ve added some solids or low volume prints from my stash to stretch it but I didn’t know enough about the pattern at that time to do that. So…I guess I’ll just have to make another one! Hahaha

I also got the memorial quilt basted…woohoo! I pulled my ironing board outside yesterday morning and spray basted it while the patio was still in the shade (sorry no pics). Before I start my go-to meander for the quilting, I’ll need to clean out the bobbin area and put in a fresh needle. I’m going to use a bit bigger needle (100/16) because many of the pieces of clothing are thicker than t-shirts, I’ll probably test it out on a few pieces of scraps first just to be sure it will work 😉

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another positive week with WW, down .6 !! I wasn’t sure how this past week was going to show up on the scale because I used a good bit of my Weeklies.  Thankfully I ate enough fruits & veggies to even things out 😉
That’s all for now…enjoy the rest of your weekend 😀
Procrastination and a new project
When the procrastination monster strikes I usually start a new project…hahaha, somehow that makes perfect sense in my head!
I should be basting and quilting the commissioned memorial quilt but instead I just ‘had to’ start making a quilt I’ve been seeing on IG. It’s a pattern called Meadowland from Then Came Jane and there’s a hashtag on IG where it seems everyone is making it!!
I pulled some FQs I’ve been hoarding called Fleet and Flourish by Maureen Cracknell and finally gave in to the monster! I started cutting and piecing the blocks on Thursday…
img_20190704_220150_627
The first block I made had a few mistakes – oy! As I was making the flying geese using the ‘No waste’ method in the pattern, I was so focused on getting everything lined up that I didn’t even notice I had the fabric turned the wrong way!!! Ugh!
img_20190705_110742 img_20190705_110806
Front side of the block                                          Back side of the block
It wasn’t until I started piecing the flying geese into the block that I noticed my mistake. It was too late to turn back at that point so I just decided to ‘go with it’! My next mistake was not reading the pressing instructions…now I have a few significant bumps where the pieces intersect. This one I could fix but I think I’m just going to call this block my ‘tester’ and move on! I actually have 13 blocks cut and the size I’m making only needs 12…so unless I make more mistakes I’ll have one extra anyway 😉
Here are the 7 blocks I have finished so far… the pics are a little over-exposed because I keep taking these at night using the ‘brightner’ on my phone.
img_20190705_221243_533img_20190706_222101.jpg
Once I get the rest made I’ll need to turn my focus to the commission quilt… it’s so frustrating when I do these things!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Update on my WW journey: I’m down 1.0 this week – YAY! Progress is good and I still feel like I can have pretty much anything I want but now I decide whether ‘spending’ the points on it is really worth it 😉

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No updates on our other house, things are still moving forward with the estate sale and the sale of the house. Keep the good vibes coming ❤
Have a great rest of your weekend 🙂
