Short & sweet

I’ll be keeping this brief today, we’re driving back to our other house later this morning to go through our stuff one last time before the estate sale. The sale was supposed to be this weekend coming but because we couldn’t get up there before now, it’s being put off until the following weekend so she can adequately advertise for it. I sure will be glad when all of this is behind us!!

I finished my Meadowland quilt top yesterday and now, of course, I wish I had made the larger version 😦 I used a FQ bundle I had been hoarding and only had enough to make the 48×64 size. I could’ve added some solids or low volume prints from my stash to stretch it but I didn’t know enough about the pattern at that time to do that. So…I guess I’ll just have to make another one! Hahaha

I also got the memorial quilt basted…woohoo! I pulled my ironing board outside yesterday morning and spray basted it while the patio was still in the shade (sorry no pics). Before I start my go-to meander for the quilting, I’ll need to clean out the bobbin area and put in a fresh needle. I’m going to use a bit bigger needle (100/16) because many of the pieces of clothing are thicker than t-shirts, I’ll probably test it out on a few pieces of scraps first just to be sure it will work 😉

Another positive week with WW, down .6 !! I wasn’t sure how this past week was going to show up on the scale because I used a good bit of my Weeklies.  Thankfully I ate enough fruits & veggies to even things out 😉

That’s all for now…enjoy the rest of your weekend 😀

Procrastination and a new project

When the procrastination monster strikes I usually start a new project…hahaha, somehow that makes perfect sense in my head!

I should be basting and quilting the commissioned memorial quilt but instead I just ‘had to’ start making a quilt I’ve been seeing on IG. It’s a pattern called Meadowland from Then Came Jane and there’s a hashtag on IG where it seems everyone is making it!!

I pulled some FQs I’ve been hoarding called Fleet and Flourish by Maureen Cracknell and finally gave in to the monster! I started cutting and piecing the blocks on Thursday…

The first block I made had a few mistakes – oy! As I was making the flying geese using the ‘No waste’ method in the pattern, I was so focused on getting everything lined up that I didn’t even notice I had the fabric turned the wrong way!!! Ugh!

Front side of the block                                          Back side of the block

It wasn’t until I started piecing the flying geese into the block that I noticed my mistake. It was too late to turn back at that point so I just decided to ‘go with it’! My next mistake was not reading the pressing instructions…now I have a few significant bumps where the pieces intersect. This one I could fix but I think I’m just going to call this block my ‘tester’ and move on! I actually have 13 blocks cut and the size I’m making only needs 12…so unless I make more mistakes I’ll have one extra anyway 😉

Here are the 7 blocks I have finished so far… the pics are a little over-exposed because I keep taking these at night using the ‘brightner’ on my phone.

Once I get the rest made I’ll need to turn my focus to the commission quilt… it’s so frustrating when I do these things!!

Update on my WW journey: I’m down 1.0 this week – YAY! Progress is good and I still feel like I can have pretty much anything I want but now I decide whether ‘spending’ the points on it is really worth it 😉

No updates on our other house, things are still moving forward with the estate sale and the sale of the house. Keep the good vibes coming ❤

Have a great rest of your weekend 🙂

Good things

I’ve been steadily working on my scrappy rainbow postage stamp quilt top and I just finished making the blue blocks yesterday using Sarah’s tutorial. I’ve been pulling out each scrap bin by color and making as many blocks as the fabric scraps allow, which means I have an uneven number of blocks from color to color. I’m OK with that – hey, it’s a scrap quilt and they are always unpredictable.

That said…this is going to be one massive quilt! LOL

Here’s a pic of the strip sets of green before pressing and sub-cutting

And here are the completed blocks up the the design wall. My wall measures 6ft down by 8ft across, you can see I’m almost out of space and I still have blue & purple to go!

Here are the strips of blue before any piecing…

I was able to get 20 blue blocks out of those strip sets so I knew I needed to do something  to re-orient the quilt on the wall. I had initially put the ‘top’ of the quilt on the left side and worked my way right to the ‘bottom’. I decided to put the top back at the top and extend it out to 9 blocks wide.

Here’s what fits on the wall now

I have 11 more blue blocks on the floor and plan to make the purple ones today. The ‘blocks’ measure 10.5 so once I piece this all together the top will measure 90″x100″…WOAH!! I did not set out to make a quilt this big and honestly I didn’t think I had that many scraps 😮 But don’t think my scrap bins are empty now either!!! Hahaha

In other quilting news, my client finally decided on backing fabric for the memorial quilt and it arrived late last week, here’s a pic from The color in person is just a tad darker grey and it’s perfect!

Now I need to get outside to baste everything and get to quilting on it!

WW is going well! Most days I stay within my Smart Points and I’ve been able to control my urges to each ‘junk’. The treat I allow myself is animal crackers – Ha! I can have 16 for 4pts and it satisfies my urge for something sweet and something crunchy! At my weigh-in yesterday I was officially down .4 from last week – I’ll take it!! I even had an adult beverage the night before! Speaking of…have you tried these new (to me) spiked sparkling water drinks? One is 3pts and it’s really good!

In other good news…WE HAVE A BUYER FOR OUR OTHER HOUSE!!! I know I probably should’ve led with that but I figured I’d build up to it, HA! Last week I mentioned someone came by to look at the house and was very interested well, he came back Monday and gave DH a non-refundable deposit of $5000!! Holy mackerel!! And even better, his timeline to settle gives us time to do our estate sale…wow! Keep those prayers and positive thoughts coming!!

That’s it for now…have a great rest of your weekend 🙂

Big News!

I’ve got lots to share quilting wise but the biggest, bestest news is: I’m a Great Aunt!!!

My niece gave birth to a 5lb 11oz, 18″ long little girl on Friday, Nov 10. Her name is Campbell Elizabeth and she’s perfect!! She came about 2.5 weeks early and they’re keeping an eye on her but she’s doing really well 😀

I’m just so tickled…my niece has been trying to have a baby for many, many years so this is such a blessing. I’ll be traveling to Maryland later this month to spend a week with them, helping out in any way they need me to – squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I made some seasonal table toppers for a friend who lives near Seattle…and here they are! She saw me post about my own Pumpkin topper and asked for one, as well as a Christmas topper.

I used decorative stitching on the tree to mimic garland…I love it! Now I need to make myself one 😀

I added to my Honeypot Bee collection with this October block…every time I make one I get all giddy because I still love that Blueberry Park fabric!! Can’t wait to put all these blocks together 😉

As I usually do, when I’m knee deep in a big project I just have to pull out some fabric and start a new project :-s I had a charm pack of Batiks and I was feeling the seasonal change so I added a brown background fabric and made up this little baby top. It’s sitting patiently in my ‘tops’ box until I get back around to it.

I also finished the Quilt for Vegas and put that in the mail this week. I used fabric from a half-yard bundle of Mini Bracelets I’ve been hoarding for a few years. I did straight line quilting to mimic the block pattern and used text fabric for the backing.

Last but not least…I F.I.N.A.L.L.Y. finished the Memorial quilt. This one really challenged me because of all the different clothing fabric – velvet, satin, crepe, and rhinestones – wow! The customer picked it up yesterday and she was thrilled which makes all the hard work worthwhile 😉

I did double straight line quilting in each row…used Kona Navy for the back and binding. It measures 67″ square.

Now that I’ve finished these big projects, I think I’ll spend a few days cleaning up my sewing room before I dive into anything else…yeah, that sounds good – let’s see if I can do it 😉

2nd verse same as the first

Ugh, I just cannot get myself into my sewing room to finish that memorial quilt – argh! It’s so frustrating! I’ve had ample opportunity but have chosen to do almost anything else 😦  Over the past week I’ve only managed to sew together 4 rows…pitiful! I keep telling myself I’m going to ‘get in there today and finish putting it together’…but I don’t.

I’ll stop whining now…I’m just hoping by writing this out here in the blog-i-verse it will spur me into action 😉

I’ve been doing my morning routine faithfully every day which includes Meditation, Affirmations, Morning Pages, Exercise and Reading. I spend about 10-15 minutes on each one and I do feel better overall. I’m still reading/listening to The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins – I could listen to her talk all day!

Yesterday was my 32nd Wedding Anniversary…WOW, I just can’t believe it’s been 32 years!!! We spent the day putzing and then went out for a nice dinner at Del Frisco’s in Charlotte, it was delicious as always! We came home and watched the 7th game between the Astros & Yankees game…so happy the Astros won ❤  On to the World Series!

Unfortunately I won’t get much sewing done this coming week as I’m headed to Columbus, OH for a business meeting Mon-Thur.

Since I always like to post a picture, here’s the only social media post I put up these week…my Sammie girl sound asleep! Ah, I would love to zonk out like this!

sammie asleep

ttfn…have a great week!

Making progress and a new project

I was a bit more productive this week in regards to sewing & quilting. I started and completed a top for #quiltsforvegas. In light of the tragedy, the Las Vegas Quilt guild has put a call out for generous quilters to help them provide comfort quilts for the victims and first responders. So horribly sad there is even a need but I just had to contribute in any way I could, so I pulled my stash of colorful fabrics and followed the recommended design.

this picture taken before it was all sewn together

There’s still plenty of time to help out if you can – they’re accepting completed quilts, fabric, blocks, batting, thread – help of any kind – through November 15 (and beyond if necessary).

I received the new package of stabilizer last week and completed cutting & prepping the final bricks for the commissioned memorial quilt. I played around with the color/print placement and finally landed on this layout (I had to stop somewhere or I’d never move on!).

I sent this photo to the client and she was pleased. I still need to piece it all together but I asked her what she wanted for the backside – I suggested a solid or low volume print because there was so much color & movement on the front…thankfully she agreed! She asked me to pick a solid color, something dark & masculine (ha!). We landed on a nice navy blue – whew! So the next steps are all planned out – I’ve even thought about how I’m going to quilt it…I’m going to do straight lines about a 1/2″ on either side of the horizontal seams, hoping it will also give it a bit more of a masculine feel since she’s gifting this to her Uncle.

I’ve been continuing on my Bullet Journal journey…I keep track of all my to-do’s and next actions (although I don’t always DO them!). I follow Boho Berry Tribe on Facebook and have caught “fountain pen fever”. I already have a Platinum Preppy and a Pilot Metro Retro Pop…but I just had to buy a Lamy Safari in Green…ah, that color is just fabulous and I bought matching green ink…woohoo! The ink is a little bit lighter/brighter than this picture suggests…it’s really nice!

That’s the highlights from last week…I hope to get the memorial quilt all pieced this week and then go shopping for the backing fabric. I think I’ll go to the fabric store rather than buy online – I want to be sure I get the correct shade of Navy Blue 😉

Just a tad late…

I’m still in a little bit of a sewing/quilting funk. This commissioned quilt project I’m working on using random clothes has really got me all wigged out! The clothes they gave me are SO.BRIGHT!

Here are the ‘bricks’ I’ve already cut and stabilized. I sent the customer this suggested layout to get her reaction and she likes it!! So I guess I won’t be adding in any blender fabrics!! I may still play with the placement to see if I can somehow make it a bit more cohesive but this is all I have to work with!!

If you want to offer any ideas or suggestions – I’m wide open to it 😀

I needed a break and I also needed a new table topper for fall so I pulled out my seasonal fabrics and put this little puppy together in one evening – it measures 14 inches square. I quilted curved lines on the pumpkin but the thread matches so well you can hardly see it. I may go back over it with black…or maybe not!

I’ve made no progress on the Redskin quilt other than deciding on the design I want to use…I’ve still got it on my ‘to-do’ list so there’s hope!

That’s all for now…I plan to pick up where I left off with this glass 😉
