Sammie surgery

My little mini-schnauzer girl had to have surgery last week. She’s 9 years old and never had her teeth cleaned, the vet said it was time. She also suggested that while she was under  we take off some of the larger skin tags that had cropped up over the last couple of years, a total of 6, so we did that too. Sammie came through with flying colors but this Momma was a nervous wreck! The vet called while Sammie was still under to say that two of her lower front teeth were loose and she recommended taking them out, so I agreed.

I picked her up around 3pm, she was still a bit groggy and out of it but I got her home and made her something to eat and she gobbled it right up – that’s always a good sign! We got a prescription for pain meds and she only needed them for two days before she was back to her old self again…yay! Here’s a picture of two of the spots where skin tags were removed.

and here’s a closeup of her missing teeth…LOL

I took off Friday to take care of Sammie but she slept most of the day so I worked in my sewing room. I finished up the Pumpkin table runner and started on my next commission tshirt quilt (yep, the first girl finally brought her shirts over!!)

This is not the final layout for this project, I just wanted to get an idea of size. I have lots of tshirt pieces left over so I may do a border with those, not sure yet.

I also put together a baby quilt top for my niece. They picked out the pink & gray fabrics (they’re having a girl!!) and gave me a few Pinterest shots they liked, thankfully it was pretty easy! I want to use a gray chevron flannel for the backing but wouldn’t you know it, none of my local stores had it in stock … so off to Fabric.com I went. I know, I know, I shouldn’t buy online but when it’s not available local there’s really not much I can do. My niece also asked if I could make a few receiving blankets so I got a couple extra yards of flannel and minky for that too. I need to have all this finished by the time I go up to Md for the baby shower on Aug 27…no problem!

A little closer look at the fabrics.

And while they were on Pinterest they stumbled across this adorable Tag Toy and asked if I could make it…um, I guess I could try…Ha! this should be fun!

So that was my week. The house in Myrtle Beach is coming along and we’ll be going down for a visit next weekend so I’ll have more pictures for my next post – which will probably be late 😉

More finishes

I finished up two more items this week. As I’ve mentioned I’ve been working on a Patchwork Pumpkin table runner for a friend in California and I actually got it done last weekend and in the mail on Monday with the blanket for Anya. I wanted to wait to post about it until she received it and sent me a few pictures…but that hasn’t happened yet and I’m just too dang excited to wait any longer!! lol

I’ve really enjoyed making these table runners – they’re just enough work that I feel accomplished but it doesn’t take me weeks to get through the project 😀

The second item I finished this week is the Genny and Ruth block that I turned into a baby blanket. I finally got it basted and quilted. I decided to use random wavy lines (I’ve been seeing a lot of that in the blog-o-sphere lately); it was a little difficult at first because I was getting some pulling and puckering but I quickly figured out that I was pulling and moving the blanket too much. I’m so happy with the final product – it finished at 40″ square! I used leftovers from the Kona Blueberry fat quarters to make the binding…it’s perfect!

Now for a gratuitous display of photos (sorry for the poor lighting):

Taking a few days off

I’ve got a couple of PTO days planned and I decided I would spoil myself a little.

Today I scheduled a massage at 10 am and it was heavenly! My last massage was so long ago I can’t even remember it! I liked Rejuvenate Spa so much that I scheduled a facial for tomorrow morning 😮  It’s been even longer since my last facial…

After I was properly chilled out, I went out to lunch with DH and then I’ve spent the rest of the afternoon sewing. I joined another block of the month series and unfortunately I’m 3 three blocks behind! In my defense, I joined late after the first two blocks were already released so I knew I would have some catching up to do.

The series is called Cozy Afternoon and the center pieces are in the theme of a cup of tea. She offers 3 options for the center of each block – you can applique it, embroidery it or you can just use a fabric square. I joined this particular series because I wanted to get better at applique so that’s what I plan to do.

I actually tried to start the border pieces last night and my seam allowances got off so I trashed that effort and started new today…and…I LOVE it!!! Yeah, it’s not perfect but that’s why I’m doing it…to get better 😀

Love these bright colors!!

I just love how the pattern on the teal flower makes it look like a bee is crawling on it…that was just a ‘happy accident’!!

I’m going to try to get Blocks 2 & 3 done before I go back to work on Tuesday…wish me luck!!

I also wanted to share the fabric that arrived in the mail today…I just love opening those packages – it feels like Christmas morning!! Squeeee!

The July Fat Quarter Club shipment arrived and the color theme is dark blue. Each time I get a new shipment I’m just blown away by the fabrics and the patterns and I was not disappointed with these:

I also received my order from FatQuarterShop.com that I placed using the $50 gift certificate I won…even though I knew what was coming it was still exciting to open it up and feel the fabric…I think I’m becoming a ‘fabriholic’!! I ordered a fat quarter of fall/halloween fabrics so I can make the Patchwork Pumpkin table runner I found on Pinterest.

This picture doesn’t really do it justice…the fabric is heavenly!!!

That’s about all for now…I’ll probably head back into the sewing room after dinner…I’ll keep you posted!!
