Visitors and misc

Not a lot of sewing going on around here. I finished the memory quilt two weeks ago and I thought I would jump right into finishing my Meadowland quilt or my Rainbow Postage Stamp quilt…but both are still sitting there untouched 😦 I did piece batting and the back for the Meadowland so I guess that’s progress, lol

We had friends from Maryland visit last week and it was exhausting!! I won’t go into all the gory details, suffice to say they argue constantly and we were very happy when it was time for them to leave. I don’t think we’ll be inviting them back – ever again! With all that angst we still captured a few good pictures

In other news, we’re redecorating DH’s bedroom (yes, we sleep in separate rooms). His bedding and curtains were an ugly dull brown and he (finally!) decided to lighten things up a bit. He saw this coverlet on Evine and asked me to order it – needless to say you could’ve knocked me over with a feather, but I got on the computer right away 🙂

Next, we ordered a navy blue bedskirt and navy blue blackout curtains from Amazon…the bedskirt is elastic and kind of wraps around the boxspring instead of having that gauzy material that goes under the whole mattress – wow, it was so easy to put on! We haven’t hung the curtains yet.

I have started a new quilting project, my husband’s cousin reached out to me a few months back to ask if I would make a quilt for her next grandchild due in October, I said Yes! I love making baby quilts!! 🙂 She had a specific color palette in mind and wanted something with elephants so I got on Pinterest and sent her a few examples of quilts I felt I could replicate or offered a pattern. She loved this one (and it was secretly my fav too!)

esm

She wanted it to be all flannel so I gave her the fabric requirements and she went to her local Joann’s, bought what she liked and sent them to me (she lives in WV). I’ve had those fabrics for about a month and yesterday I started working on the project by cutting the 5″ squares, piecing together the template for the elephant, tracing it to Heat ‘n Bond and affixing it to the fabric. Next up is cutting it out and appliqueing it to the background.

I didn’t drop any weight this week…in fact I’m up .4 but I expected that with having company most of the week. We ate out a lot and I had a few more ‘adult beverages’ than usual.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My niece is coming for a visit next week and I’m so excited! She’s like a mini-me in many ways – appearance, personality, world view. We often joke she should be my kid!! (Ha, she’s not a kid anymore). She celebrated her 40th Bday earlier this year and I wasn’t able to go up to MD at that time so we’ll do something while she’s here to mark the occasion.
That’s all for now…enjoy the rest of your weekend!!
Progress
Lots of progress has been made on my Rainbow Postage Stamp quilt… in fact, the top is DONE!!
Here are a few shots as I made progress – all colors are now completed
img_20190624_212425_698
I pressed the seams open all through the process…doesn’t the backside look almost as good as the front? haha
img_20190625_214152
Here the piecing has begun…
img_20190628_215639
And after I put the final stitches in last night there was enough light left outside for a quick picture! I had my final calculations off just a bit so the final top measure 90″ square (I know it looks long in this picture…I guess it’s just the angle)
img_20190629_202359_123
Unfortunately I have to put this to the side for now and work on the memorial quilt 😉 I’ve been shopping online for wide fabric so I don’t need to piece the back but haven’t found anything I just have to have…oh well, more shopping for me!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In other news…I’ve made more progress at WW, I’m down 1.4 this week SQUEEEEEEEE! I can feel the difference in my clothes (they’re not so tight!) so I’m encouraged to keep going 🙂 We’ve been eating home a little more, I think that’s helping too.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A little more progress has been made at our other house – we finally got the storage unit emptied!! Woohoo, no more monthly bill for that! The estate sales company we hired moved all the sell-able stuff to the house and the sale will be held on the weekend of 7/20. Once that’s completed, we’ll see what’s left and decide whether to donate or dump it. DH talked with the buyer last week and he’s having his attorney start the paperwork to transfer the house – the closing will be some time the week of 8/19. They also agreed that we would take care of the lawn until the end of July and the new owner would be responsible after that.
It appears to be coming all together but I’ve learned a long time ago to never ‘count your chickens’ until they’re hatched, so I’ll ask for continued prayers and good thoughts for this to all work out ❤ 🙂
That’s all for now…have a great rest of your weekend!
Good things
I’ve been steadily working on my scrappy rainbow postage stamp quilt top and I just finished making the blue blocks yesterday using Sarah’s tutorial. I’ve been pulling out each scrap bin by color and making as many blocks as the fabric scraps allow, which means I have an uneven number of blocks from color to color. I’m OK with that – hey, it’s a scrap quilt and they are always unpredictable.
That said…this is going to be one massive quilt! LOL
Here’s a pic of the strip sets of green before pressing and sub-cutting
img_20190616_214636_114
And here are the completed blocks up the the design wall. My wall measures 6ft down by 8ft across, you can see I’m almost out of space and I still have blue & purple to go!
img_20190619_215321_944
Here are the strips of blue before any piecing…
img_20190620_213050_851
I was able to get 20 blue blocks out of those strip sets so I knew I needed to do something  to re-orient the quilt on the wall. I had initially put the ‘top’ of the quilt on the left side and worked my way right to the ‘bottom’. I decided to put the top back at the top and extend it out to 9 blocks wide.
Here’s what fits on the wall now
img_20190622_223303_691
I have 11 more blue blocks on the floor and plan to make the purple ones today. The ‘blocks’ measure 10.5 so once I piece this all together the top will measure 90″x100″…WOAH!! I did not set out to make a quilt this big and honestly I didn’t think I had that many scraps 😮 But don’t think my scrap bins are empty now either!!! Hahaha
In other quilting news, my client finally decided on backing fabric for the memorial quilt and it arrived late last week, here’s a pic from Fabric.com. The color in person is just a tad darker grey and it’s perfect!
Now I need to get outside to baste everything and get to quilting on it!
WW is going well! Most days I stay within my Smart Points and I’ve been able to control my urges to each ‘junk’. The treat I allow myself is animal crackers – Ha! I can have 16 for 4pts and it satisfies my urge for something sweet and something crunchy! At my weigh-in yesterday I was officially down .4 from last week – I’ll take it!! I even had an adult beverage the night before! Speaking of…have you tried these new (to me) spiked sparkling water drinks? One is 3pts and it’s really good!
In other good news…WE HAVE A BUYER FOR OUR OTHER HOUSE!!! I know I probably should’ve led with that but I figured I’d build up to it, HA! Last week I mentioned someone came by to look at the house and was very interested well, he came back Monday and gave DH a non-refundable deposit of $5000!! Holy mackerel!! And even better, his timeline to settle gives us time to do our estate sale…wow! Keep those prayers and positive thoughts coming!!
That’s it for now…have a great rest of your weekend 🙂
Scrap Happy
I’m still working on my scrappy postage stamp quilt while my client decides on backing fabric for the memorial quilt.
If you follow me on Instagram you’ve already seen these pictures. A few weeks ago I sorted my scraps by color and now I’m pulling each basket out in rainbow order to make as many postage stamp blocks as I can using Sarah’s tutorial. Clearly I have way too much pink…
img_20190612_193120_566
I struggled not having enough orange scraps so I had to bust into my FQ stash
img_20190613_195459_888
And lastly, with the yellow addition
img_20190615_140852.jpg
I’m currently cutting strips from my green basket and hope to have that added to the wall by the end of the day! After I have all my blocks made I’ll decide on a final layout and start piecing them together. At this rate I might have enough for one big King size quilt or I might split them into two smaller quilts…we’ll see…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As I mentioned last week, I re-joined WW and yesterday was my first official weigh in. I’ve been weighing at home first thing in the morning with no clothes on so it’s not an equal comparison to their scales but I calculate I’ve lost 2.4 pounds since starting. They keep saying 90% of weight loss is from the shoulders up and they are SO RIGHT. I’ve been so much better about food choices and snacking this first week because it’s been top of mind and I know I’ll be weighing in every week. It’s just the accountability this “Obliger” needs! That’s a reference from Gretchen Ruben’s book ‘The Four Tendencies’ – you can take the quiz here for free. This is not an ad, it’s just that after I read her book and took the quiz I finally came to terms with the fact that my personality type really needs external accountability when it comes to doing hard things…so why fight it!!!

DH is currently at our other house doing yard work and getting it prepped for the estate sale. Coincidentally, he hired an acquaintance to do some yard work and his Uncle was looking to buy a house …so… they came over Friday to look at the place and appear to be really considering buying it!!!! Oh my goodness, that would be so awesome!! Please say a prayer and send out lots of good vibes that this works out for us ❤

That’s all for now… I’m headed back to my sewing room…have a great rest of your weekend!!

Happy Father’s Day!
