Can I get a Woot Woot!?

Today was the Charlotte 10 Miler race and I clocked a PB – I’m sooooo happy 😀

When I got up this morning, I was feeling rather ambivalent thinking ‘hey, even if I have to walk the last few miles – so be it’. I met up with Kitty to car pool and we made it to packet pick up with time to spare. We got in line for the potty, which moved remarkably fast, and were all geared up in plenty of time to reach the starting line.

The start of the race was pretty uneventful – no starting gun, no announcer – just the recognition that everyone in front of us was beginning to run across the Start Line – oh well, off we go!

Kitty ran with me the whole time today, she’s been training for a full marathon and her plan only called for 6 miles today so she didn’t want to push too hard. We followed my app intervals of 3 min run, 1.5 min walk the entire way. There were a few segments that I had to extend the walking segment but for the most part I stayed on plan.

Since my VivoFit2 is still not calculating distance correctly, I decided I would use my old Garmin GPS watch to track the race. The added benefit is it captures pace for each mile as well as overall; of course I started it late so it didn’t record a full 10 miles but I was able to edit the total distance in Garmin Connect. It’s clear to see that I slowed down quite a bit in miles 7, 8, 9 but somehow was able to pickup my pace in the last mile, lol.

After this race, I’m feeling much better about the Half Marathon coming up in 2 weeks – hopeful that I will not only finish but I just might get a personal best there as well. Oh, wouldn’t that be lovely!!

ttfn…
